A triumphant, colorful, costume drama/spectacle of the 15th century monarch - the first screen adaption of Shakespeare's classic, immortal play. This was director/star Laurence Olivier's brilliant directorial debut (Olivier also starred, co-produced, and co-adapted the script). Innovatively staged, the film begins on the stage of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in the 1600s. The narrative then shifts to an epic film format shot on-location with sweeping, technicolor battle scenes. The film is the story of the 28 year-old Plantagenet Prince of Wales (Laurence Olivier) who decides to act on his claim to the French throne by invading France. He defeats the French at Agincourt despite being greatly outnumbered by a vastly superior French force.
